Abstract

This paper is a linguistic study about the editing of "Al-Mu'jam Al-Wasiit". We met in our reading and teaching of this valuable dictionary various errors, which include tashiif, tahriif, incorrectness of typing, loss of certain letters and even words; which lead in many cases to misunderstanding of the meaning or discontinuity of the text. We depended in the suggested corrections, on many linguistic sources, including most of the other Arabic dictionaries. Also, we gave, at the beginning of this paper, some proposals which we deem necessary for the development of this dictionary and helping in making it attain the objectives it set for itself now and in the future. Our main objectives in this paper is supplying the readers and scholars in Arabic with a better understanding of the texts related to our study, and helping in making authentic and more correct editions of this valuable dictionary "Al-Mu'jam Al-Wasiit".
